Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
1. Some text does not have sufficient colour contrast when compared with its background. Some users may find them hard to read. This fails WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum).
2. There are some links that don’t make sense out of context. Users who use screen readers may not fully understand what each link is for. This fails Success Criterion 2.4.4 (Link Purpose – In Context).
3. When zoomed in on desktop, the drop-down menu cannot be scrolled and some of the menu items are unavailable. Users browse at different zoom setting may not have access to some of the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 1.4.10 (Reflow).
4. When tabbing through the page using the tab key, some of the drop-down menu is not showing and unavailable. Keyboard only users may not have access to some of the menu items. This fails WCAG2.2 Success Criterion 2.1.1 Keyboard (Level A)
5. Skip to content link at the top is not working. Keyboard users may need to tab through all navigation every time. This fails WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks (Level A)
6. Issues with PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents
Many of our older PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint don’t meet accessibility standards – they may not be marked up so they’re accessible to a screen reader.
The Accessibility regulations 2018 – PDF’s don’t require us to fix these or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. Any new PDFs (our universal format for documents on the website) that are published will meet accessibility standards.
Some of our resource documents, such as posters, are designed to be downloaded and printed, so these may not be fully accessible. Some documents that are essential to providing our services, such as forms published as PDF and Word documents, may not yet be accessible. We plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.
Our website developers and content editors identified the above issues during the last accessibility audit. Easy fixes for some of these issues have been applied to the most popular pages informed by Google Analytics 4. We aim to fix the above issues in three months. We’re continuing to audit and improve accessibility across the rest of the website.
